Explore Dance: Culver City

June 5   1:30pm-2:30pm   Free

Benita Bike’s DanceArt concludes its 35th Anniversary Season with an interactive dance performance at Culver City’s Senior Center on Sunday, June 5, 1:30 pm. The Culver City Senior Center is located at 4095 Overland Avenue, at the corner of Overland and Culver. This performance is made possible in part by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Additional support comes from the Culver City Senior Center. This performance is FREE and suitable for all ages. No reservations are necessary!

Fresh from a residency at St. Lawrence University and a 35th anniversary celebration performance at Cal State Long Beach, Benita Bike’s DanceArt brings to Culver City a dance discovery program where audience members will learn how dances are made and how dance artists train, work, and create. Three concert dances will be performed, and there will be plenty of opportunities for audience members to interact with the artists.

Featured on this program are new works are “On Beat 3” and “For Rose.” Surprising “On Beat 3” uses driving percussive rhythms and colorful off-balance movements to explore a world of ordered chaos. “For Rose” - a tribute of sorts to the choreographer’s mother who passed away in 2015 - was termed “a beautiful look into the effects that a mother has on her daughter” by SeeDance.com’s reviewer Jeff Slayton. The program is rounded out by “Through the Lens,” a quirky quintet accompanied by music made from fantastical instruments.
