Janet Bothne - Biography

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born near Boston, Bothne studied art at the University of MA at Amherst, The Fuller Museum in Massachusetts, and at UCLA and Brentwood Art Center in California. She relocated to the Los Angeles area in 1996 and later quit her job as a graphic designer to focus on painting full-time in 2001.

“I see color akin to music. It’s no coincidence they both can be described in terms such as soft, loud or bright – they have keys and tones. I experience muted color as chords and saturated color as crescendo. With a variety of music as my muse, and the limitless possibilities pigment presents, I seek to compose visual rhythms, harmonic or discordant, but all with an underlying sense of life and electricity.”

Bothne currently lives in Santa Monica and works out of her studio at the Santa Monica Airport.
