BLIND DATE : A National Juried Exhibit of Writers and Visual Artists
BLIND DATE is a national juried art exhibit in which writers and visual artists who have never met or spoken are paired off to create unique collaborations of text and image. Each writer will receive a piece of visual art and will be asked to create a written piece inspired by it. Each visual artist will be handed a poem, short story or essay and will be invited to create a piece of artwork – in any medium – inspired by it. The results will be hung alongside one another in an installation at Anderson Creative in May 2011. The opening of the exhibit will also be the first point at which artists and writers will meet one another face-to-face.

BLIND DATE will include the work of 15 writers and 15 visual artists, selected by a jury. To have your work considered, please adhere to the following guidelines:

• Each applicant may submit up to three (3) pieces of work. If selected, one or more of these pieces will be given to a writer or artist, so please select work that you think will be a particularly fruitful starting point for a collaborator.
• Submissions may be e-mailed to Craig Joseph at craigjose@gmail.com or sent via the United States Postal Service to: Craig Joseph, c/o Anderson Creative, 331 Cleveland Ave NW, Canton, OH 44709.
• Visual artwork submissions should be sent in JPEG format, either by e-mail or burned to a CD.
• Written submissions should be sent as Microsoft Word documents or in PDF format, either by e-mail or burned to a CD.
• Each file should be titled with the artist’s name, an underscore and the title of the piece, i.e. MarcyAxelband_ASadWoman.
• In the case of visual artwork, a Microsoft Word document or PDF file should also accompany the submission, listing, for each piece, the title, the artist’s name, the size (h x w x d), the medium and the price (assuming that the gallery will take a 35% commission if the piece sells). A work does not have to be for sale to be included.
• Each submission should be accompanied by a check or money order, made out to Anderson Creative, for $25. Online applicants may pay the fee through the Pay Pal button located on the website at www.andersoncreativestudio.com.
• All submissions are due by Friday, December 10th, 2010 at 5PM.
• You will be notified that your artwork has been accepted or declined by Friday, December 17th, 2010. All jury decisions are final.
• Submission materials will only be returned to those who supply a SASE.
• Artists and writers will be paired in January and will then have until the end of April to complete their new pieces. Specific dates and details TBD once all participants are selected.

Compensation:   65% of sales for visual artists; $50 for the writer if their paired artwork sells
