My Profession: Art
About my work:
Having completed her university education, Michele D'Acosta trained at the BBC in single camera directing and studied postgraduate filmmaking at UCLA. Michele's gallery presentations for 2009-10 include THE HIP HOP TRAIN: a New York City reportage filmed on the New York D Train that was presented at the De La Warr Pavilion gallery. DISGRACED a photo-roman self-portrait presented at the Turner Gallery Contemporary Space that went on to be exhibited at the SNAP TO THE GRID exhibition at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art. Michele's most recent video art film called BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY was inspired by Stanley Brakhage, Shirley Clark, Chris Marker and the Charlotte Vincent Dance Company. Michele's work has also been shown in mainstream venues including The Odeon Cinema, The Duke of York's cinema and the Electric Palace Cinema. In addition, Michele facilitates video art projects for schoolchildren with special needs and, in 2007, she was commissioned as lead artist on TAKE FIVE: a community based project which involved seventy special needs schoolchildren which resulted in six individual video art films made by the children themselves.

Archived Portfolio Comments
hey michele,
ah....great to check out your sight. finally. super stuff indeed.
Very interesting work! Sophisticated, historically informed (both politically and artistically) and emotionally powerful. I love the newsprint textures and the integration of abstract and figurative imagery. I can also relate to your named influences (and see some of their inspiration in your conceptual approaches and technical methods).
Mark here from TW9. Came across your profile while perusing some of our newer members. You may’ve already been contacted by someone else from The Whole 9 but I wanted to say ‘Hello’ as well. Great stuff in the portfolio....love ab/original tartan. Again, very cool.
Here’s to paths crossing at one of our events, openings or workshops!
