colettestandish Everyone that knows me knows that my signature is a red lipped smacker of a kiss, but this is a slightly twisted version of it. This little beauty is in a show with other sexy, nasty but totally irresistible art works at the Nasty Exhibition at Arc G

New Abstracted Images

An extension of the Abstracting Figure series but the works start to lend them selves to a more surrealism approach

A Love Letter to Paris

The initial idea behind the project was a homage to Paris and its artists which have both influenced and inspired me: Surrealism, Brassai, Man Ray and Anais Nin. But as the work evolved, it graduated into its own story: An Afternoon of love in Paris. The photography is erotic, yet subtle. I wanted to give the work a cinematic approach: each image telling its own story whilst still connecting. All the imagery is shot in Black and White film. I have print outs of both film and digital.

Venice

This project is still in progress. The idea came about on a recent trip to Venice. I was there between seasons fall and winter, just before Christmas. The place was cold and there were hardly any tourists. It was very magical and had a dream like quality, like sleep walking, which I wanted to capture: the city asleep conserving it energy. Also it was the first time I had taken night shots which was very exciting for me. All the images are shot in Black and White film,(although I do have digital prints: original photos scanned in). I also have a number of Lith prints from this series too: I find Lith printing works well and adds to the evocativeness of the stories/images

My Profession: Art
About my work:
My work attempts to conjoin the tensions that exit between opposites, centering round masculine and feminine, Yin and Yang, animas and anima. Using the body as appoint of reference, this dichotomy has been expressed through paint and photography.

Photography

The concept is the photographic concept is seen as a mechanized masculinity and the gestural strokes of light sensitive emulsion as the emotional intelligence of the feminine.
This is played out on different surfaces such as wood and paper. The process of constructing, deconstruction and reconstructing gives the work an erotic tension that combines force and subtlety

Paint

With paint the images come and go evoking impulses that are dominant and recessive, assertive and passive. The very same impulses which attack and retreat, will also assert itself in the foreground and recesses as a subdominant theme in the background.
Although physically the body is not used as a point of reference, the seduction of colours and rhythms are linked to the human spirit evoking a human presence. Therefore the images are not given primacy but the interplay of the opposing energies is. As with the photography, these give rise to tensions and energies that both create and destroy balance.
