My Profession: Art
About my work:
My current body of paintings has become a graphic diary of sorts. I convert popular and cartoon imagery to create a personal emotional record - the events which make up my life. My work continues to evolve into a more intimate dialog, lending a new level of conceptual depth to each piece.

Artists throughout history have created bodies of work as a method of exploring their own personal dilemmas. Our quandaries are solved gradually through the progression of each series, beginning to end. Even when borrowing non-cartoon icons from pop culture, I translate them into cartoons. It seems I have an unrelenting impulse to record life as a thing of beauty and optimism. Whereby the
act of painting itself generates luminosity and eradicates darkness.

As I continue to document current events and those that have transpired over the course of my life, I attempt to translate the many emotional perspectives of the world, including my own, through a filter of hope and faith. Cartoons are by nature a pure and innocent form of expression. Many topics I present or those put forth by pop culture generate weight and responsibility. I engage in this dialog through the act of painting. By inverting the heaviness, I create something lighthearted,
simplified and optimistic.

As a form of written language, I am attracted to cartoons for their shape, color, and ease of line. As such, a bright palette, and compositions full of movement appeal to me and are abundant in my work. Thus, by category, my work is defined as Pop Art. The repetitive icons present in my work are universally understood, surpassing both language and culture. Modern media often puts forth its agenda through visual dynamism; my personal message is conveyed utilizing the same method.

In recent history, many have seen the Pop Art movement as topical. While immediate, graphic and stimulating, Pop Art holds far more importance. It is a current commentary our time in the world. Perhaps I am taking this polluted and saturated thing called "pop culture" and purifying and simplifying it. No matter the initial sensation, be it anger, joy, sadness or grief. All experiences are eventually portrayed as grace in the end. Whereby a full circle is created.
