Plotting the Routes of Civilization

A second category of The Underground Cathedral, similar to stained glass as a luminous art form, this series began as computer assist design drawings made in 1986-89 with the first commercial software and recent enhancements created in 2012-13 with current computer graphics effects.

Las rutas del genio-The Routes of Genie

Stained and leaded glass permanent installation for the Badalona International Business Center, Barcelona, 2004. The composition is based on the architectural plan for the building by Catalan architect, Antoni Poch, his inspiration being a genie's lamp. Sandwiched between sheets of glass are transparency fragments of maps from metro systems of 45 cities worldwide plus transportation tickets.

Les routes de La Grande Odalisque

Full title: Les routes de La Grande Odalisque (The Large Brain) is based on a 1979 map of the Paris Metro although the proper names of the stations have been replaced with odd juxtapositions of words and terms from disparate sources including names of horse races and privatized auto license plates. The work is accompanied by a glossary deciphering many of the chosen names. 1981

Profession: Media Artist
My Causes:
I believe in
I believe that we as human beings have been given the unique gifts to imagine, to invent, to create and that there exists a collective universal instinct, energy, power and spirit within each of us which transcends our differences. It may seem paradoxical that in discovering worshipping, expressing and celebrating our individual uniqueness that we are most profoundly able to find our compassion, understanding and love for others. We now know that it is our collective behavior which can result in the rising of the oceans, in creating weapons of mass destruction, in having the capability of bringing about universal suffering if not extinction of the unique gift of all life on the planet. We also know that it is in our conviction and openness to learn and explore that we can eradicate diseases, alleviate senseless conflicts, and that we can recognize the enormous satisfaction one receives in helping others in need and in the feeling of love that this engenders.
How I would make this world a better place
I have recently returned to my native home of L.A. after devoting many years to a poor redeveloping country formerly trapped behind the Iron Curtain where I put on many exhibitions, film showings and live musical performances working mostly with student musicians. I later created a culture venue where I presented the works of young and elderly artists, restored a precious icon of historical architecture, offered courses and seminars on diverse subjects, hired and trained many young workers and exposed a rebuilding country to quality food from relatively unknown foreign cultures. I devote my creative skills and instincts to add beauty to the world while educating about socio-political issues that I believe are vital. I go out of my way to do the little things in daily social interactions that may remind someone when they are down that there are good deeds everywhere.
Who and what I'm looking for
Having recently returned to my home turf after over two decades abroad, I look for others who I can share with, for new friendships, relationships and collaborations, where mutual support and growth is always at the core of why we are connected to one another. I also seek new opportunities to contribute effective use of my unique life experience, developed skills and gifts of creative abilities I have been given.
