Too Much Pressure

My Vision of Peace
I created this mixed media piece as an expression of the pressure I felt to succeed in a world where the rich were getting richer and the poor were getting poorer. I grew up with a single mother who lost her job and her house during the recession. I was always a good student so I was able to attend Boston University in order to get my bachelors of fine arts but after graduating 32,000 in debt I felt my degree was completely worthless. Even restaurants were turning me down for a job saying they were getting over 300 applications a day. I realized then that life as an American Artist was not going to be easy and that the only way I would not crack under the pressure would be if I could continue to express myself. Now I am looking into cleaning houses just to pay off my student loans. But, darn it i'm painting!

Medium
This piece was created on poster board using pencil, pen, sharpie, acrylics, and found art. The playing card was sewn by hand onto the poster and the there are three dimensional columns also sewn on.

Beautiful work with a lot of depth and thought. Keep it up....the "day job" might pay the bills, but doing the art keeps us sane!
