Fragile Hope

My Vision of Peace
This piece is part of a series that I was working on while going through a life changing personal experience. Art is a necessity to me, like air. It's how I work through my life and this piece was the final in this (29 Flavors and then some) series. I am hopeful and open and ready for what life has in store. To me, without hope, there can be no peace and that is a fragile thing.

Medium
During this series I used basic tools, a #2 pencil (lots of 'em) and pieces of wood usually found in the scrap bin at Home Depot. These series are about my truth and the only way to see truth, to me, is to break things down into their most simplistic form. For me, drawing was always something that came natural, not forced, though challenging myself to create self portraits on wood, rather than in my journals, was something I didn't realize how much I would love. The grains and I have formed an intimate relationship. Sometimes you have to follow the grains but to get the form to pop, you need to go against and as always its a metaphor for life. Sometimes we need to go against the grains to find purpose and hope.
