My Vision of Peace
This piece was completed around the time the numbers of dead american soldiers of 4000 from Iraq was reached. This painting was dedicated to the soldiers and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice in an ungodly war.

The explosive paint splattered background represent the violent changes humans inflict on this earth and all of it's creatures. the translucent tree shaped smoke represents transformation of once live forms rising from the ashes. The few sparse leaves represent little hope. While the black birds in flight represent the presents of death and serve as a symbol of parody for survival and freedom.

Medium
36"x 24" Acrylic on canvas

i like your painting, but wonder about your use of 'ungodly' in describing this particular war. when is a war 'godly,' and i would think that those fought in the name of god the most contradictory.

Before reading your description I saw the flash of color as a firestorm, fastly approaching the peaceful existence of these birds. They may try and fly away, but they get caught in what's coming. Hard...but beautiful work...

Very powerful and indeed thought provoking~

For those innocent lives caught in the crossfire both American and foreign born we look to God for answers and comfort because we know the pain that has been inflicted by human hands will not be remedied by human hands.

This is one of my favorites of your work, Chris. The background is very three dimensional, almost like its painted on crinkled material.

Thank you for creating this. My son heads back out for his second tour soon and I have an older brother who has already seen too much who comes back in the fall. As a Major in the medical field it's been very difficult for my brother. He had such a kind face before...it is different now.

Wow, Thank you all for your insight and inspiring words... Well said. @ Poorgood- Agreed, good point.
@ Theroadhome- Your words give me a feeling of success- my intentions are to draw you in.
@ Rosendo- in a world that sometimes feels desperate and hopeless my faith is the only thing that holds me together. @ thereadhead, This painting does have many layers of texture. I like the illusion of depth. @ ckay- I shed tears as I read your words and hope you and your family members find peace and healing soon.
