My Vision of Peace
This piece was created outdoors at Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, MI, in July, 2012. For those who have experienced the beauty of Ox-Bow it is peace incarnate. Not only does the landscape exude peace, but its artistic community embodies a generous and harmonious spirit. Artists in all media work alongside each other, age is irrelevant, and nature provides more than a backdrop for the creation of art. The lagoon breezes played as large of a role as my own artistic intent in this piece. I found great serenity working with, and not against natural forces, as I allowed the wind to take the paper and "float" it onto the surface where I had laid my marbling colors. There is a meditative quality to this process, and I feel that this is how I was able to "make peace" over the course of my two-week stay at Ox-Bow. It is my hope that my artwork reflects this.

Medium
Hand-Marbled Monoprint on Paper. I built a large "pool" and filled it with marbling size. Then I floated the marbling paint on the size and allowed the wind to blow the paint gently across the surface. I laid down a 20" x30" piece of Rives BFK paper, printed the image on the size, and subsequently printed two more contrasting layers upon the same paper.

Our second oldest daughter just graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Class of 2012!. Photography and Textile Design / Fiber Studies. I wanted to spend time at Oxbow to get the printing credits I needed for grad studies in Fine Art and Art Education! I would have loved to have gone with her! This piece is beautiful.
