Naive Joy

My Vision of Peace
My painting 'Naive Joy' is based on a photo taken by my sister Lindsey Rich in Botswana. It freezes a San woman in an instant of pure joy. She perfectly captures peace, love and understanding. She lives in the moment and connects to those around her, no matter how different they may be. Lindsey was blessed to spend time with this amazing woman. I meet kind souls in everyday life and look to connect with those abroad through all the doors my Wildlife Biologist sister opens on her travels.

Medium
The painting started with a red coat of acrylic on stretched canvas. I sketched the woman with acrylic paint. Next I began cutting and gluing in the countless headdress beads made of fabric and paper. I also used paper for the background pattern and the interior of her wrap. I next painted the wrap, hair and background with an impasto layer of acrylic. I used gold, silver and copper leaf for the delicate necklace. Once everything was sealed and archival, I used oil paint for the skin and features.

What a gorgeous painting Bobbie. Isn't it wonderful how we can learn so much from other cultures? Thanks for participating this year.
