Sweet Harmony

My Vision of Peace
We visualize peace as an image of Sweet Harmony, created through the recognition and reconciliation of what tends to divide people and the truth of a unified humanity.

This image was inspired in part by the powerful film, "Fambul Tok: A Documentary Film About the Power of Forgiveness."

There is a saying in Sierra Leone, "There is no bad bush to throw away a bad child."

The culture of forgiveness in Sierra Leone, especially in the face of 'unforgivable' crimes against humanity, offers a vision of hope quite different than we typically imagine in the West.

Thank you Lisa and all involved for hosting the screening of "Fambul Tok" at Whole 9 Gallery; it was profoundly moving. We hope more people have a chance to see it.

"And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony."
-- Elvis Costello

(Note: Both hands in this piece are those of the same model.

I'm so touched that your vision of peace was inspired by the 'Fambul Tok' documentary. You have found an evocative and creative way to communicate the film's message of forgiveness. The extra touch is that "both hands in this piece are those of the same model". This is a powerful message.
