My Vision of Peace
Strolling the streets in Giza, I captured a photograph of two Soldiers Holding Hands. Traveling throughout Egypt I commonly noticed both men and women walking together arm and arm and hand and hand. I was amazed to witness in this culture the bond of love and friendship so openly displayed. Soldiers displaying such a simple gesture gave me great hope for Peace. It made me question the american societal norm of this simple action. When we are children we hold our mothers hand and when we grow up its unacceptable. If we hold the hands of a same gender friend it is labeled gay. It made me rethink what is right and what is wrong. Are we so fearful of this simple action in our society we have forgotten what showing love is? Is it wrong to hold the hand of a friend? If we want Peace we must be open to reevaluate ourselves, change our ideas, and grow our understanding of others. Seeing these two soldiers reminded me of one simple thing. We are never to old to hold the hand of our fellow man.

This is extraordinary in many ways...and yes, it evokes a message of peace without any unnecessary interpretation. The smiles on their faces is light-hearted and childlike...again, beautiful work.
